Watchroom
The "Watchroom" is the nerve centre of the Station. Here all the organisational and administrative work is carried out. It is like the 'Bridge' of a ship. It usually has the public entrance to the Station where first contact is made.

WHO are we?

Tunstall Community Fire Station is just one of 19 stations in the Tyne and Wear Metropolitan Fire Brigade. It is known in the Brigade as Station "ROMEO". This is also the Fire Appliance radio call sign - "ROMEO 01".

WHERE are we?

TUNSTALL is a district of the City of SUNDERLAND. This is within the county of TYNE and WEAR situated in the North East of ENGLAND. The Fire Station is located on Burdon Road, Tunstall. From here it covers the neighbouring communities of Ryhope, Silksworth, Farringdon, East Herrington, Doxford Park, Burdon and Grangetown. The Station's southern boundary joins with the Durham & Darlington County Fire & Rescue Service.

WHAT do we do?

Tunstall is in the business of FIRE and RESCUE. That is saving lives as well as property from the dangers of Fire. To achieve this a dedicated team of Professional Firefighters maintains cover 24 Hours a day, Seven days a week, 365 Days a year. This is done by a Duty Watch system. There are Four Watches, RED WHITE BLUE and GREEN. Each works on a duty shift system made up of Dayshifts and Nightshifts. The Station remains on alert every day and night ready to answer 999 Firecalls.
