The "Lecture room" is where training lectures are given and
videos shown. Here the theory side of a task is explained, later the practical
application is done on the drill yard. Community organisations use this room.
Here Girl Guides are given instruction in order to get their Firefighters
Badge.
INSTRUCTION
Lectures are given on many subjects, but all are part of the firefighters training module. These can range from Fire Behaviour (Flashover / Backdraft) to First Aid, Breathing Apparatus Procedures to Building Construction. It is important that personnel are up to date with current procedures and use of equipment. Did you look in the Drill Book in the WATCHROOM?
TODAYS LECTURE
SMOKE DETECTORS - ASSAULT WITH BATTERIES?
Today most people have a SMOKE DETECTOR fitted in their home. (Of course You have one -don't you?) The extra time they give in warning of fire can mean the difference between life and death. However, they will only work if they have a BATTERY. Without this vital item they are useless - and give no warning whatsoever. Make sure - 1. your alarm has a Battery, 2. That it works - by testing it, monthly.....and Please, don't borrow it 'temporarily' to use in another item. You might not get the chance to wish that you'd put it back! The consequences can be FATAL.
ORGANISATIONS
The Girl Guides are just one of the community organisations that use the lecture room facility. The Duke of Edinburghs Award is another scheme where youth training occurs in relation to the service (Fire) section. Community Fire Safety Awareness is a subject that we want to see all people familiar with. This vital knowledge can prevent tragedies and save lives.
