KIT ROOM
Kitroom
The "Kitroom" is where Firekit is stored when crews are off duty. Each firefighter has a peg upon which a tunic and helmet are hung. Boots and leggings go on a rack underneath. When starting a shift kit is taken from here and placed on the appliance.

FIREKIT
This is the name given to the protective clothing worn when attending
incidents. It keeps the firefighter dry and safe from harm. The HELMET
protects from falling objects and contains a VISOR. The FLASHOOD
covers the head and neck with the FIRETUNIC protecting the body. OVERTROUSERS or 'leggings' cover the legs with BOOTS on the
feet. These have reinforced toecaps. Heavy duty GLOVES
protect the hands.

COULD YOU FILL THESE BOOTS?
OK, think you've got the 'bottle' (guts) to rush into that building -
when everybody else is going in the opposite direction? Not afraid of heights or confined spaces? - You're fit, resilient, flexible and of good character. You don't need
glasses and are over 18 - You could be the type we're looking for. Sex, creed or colour
aren't important what matters is can you do the job?
Think you can? then ring 0191 2321224 for info.....and pretty soon it could be YOU.

UNIFORM
This is worn during normal duty periods such as lectures or during community fire safety work. As this is about to change very shortly the photograph shown here is for illustrative purposes only. When it arrives we'll do a feature on it - watch this space.
Different RANKS in the service are recognised by observing the helmet markings, when in firekit, and epaulettes when in 'undress uniform'.
