APPLIANCEROOM
Appliance Room
The "Appliance Room" is where the Appliance, or 'Fire Engine' is kept. It is from here that it 'turns out' to firecalls and other emergencies. The doors of the bay open vertically, like a roller-shutter. Tunstall has two bays but only one Appliance.

ROMEO 01

R01 is a Volvo FL6 water tender ladder. "ROMEO ZERO ONE " is the appliance radio call sign. It carries all the equipment required to carry out firefighting and rescue operations. It has an internal tank that holds 1800 Litres (400 gallons) of water.

TOPOGRAPHY

Speed is essential when answering emergency calls. It is important to know where the incident is, and how to get there quickly. Knowing the layout of roads, risks and locations within the STATION AREA can save vital seconds. Route Cards and A to Z map books are used to find locations. Other books give the locations of Fire Hydrants and detail hazards. The ' TURNOUT SHEET ' from the teleprinter gives other information.
(See the Tactical Exercise at Gilley Law in the DRILLYARD+Station Area Map)

TURNOUTS

When someone dials ' 999 ' the call is sent to CONTROL at West Denton. Details are taken of the address etc., the appliance is then ' turned out ' to the incident. An Alarm sounds at the station and the information is printed out on the TELEPRINTER. If the appliance is already out and someone comes to the station to report an incident, ( a Running Call ) they can use the EMERGENY CALL BOX. They can then speak directly to Control. Another appliance comes to ' Standby ' at the station to cover Tunstall's area in the event of another turnout.
